Skateboarder Suspected of Sex Crimes

Several Watsonville women have reported a sketchy attack: being groped by a young man riding a skateboard.

Skateboarding may not be a crime, but inappropriately touching women while cruising down the street is.

There's at least one skater in Watsonville who's been groping women on city streets in the past month, according to police reports.

As of Friday, at least three women have reported they were grabbed by the sketchy skateboarder, . One of the sexual battery cases happened on the evening of Aug. 27 when while she was out for a walk near Martinelli and California streets.

None of the women have been physically injured during the incidents. Police have not released other information about the cases, including where the other gropings occurred, the ages of the women victimized or the description of the skateboarder.

"We're definitely looking into the incidents," Lt. Dave McCartney said, adding that detectives are working to put together a plan to notify the public.

The skateboard groper could be charged with multiple counts of sexual battery, which can be either a felony or a misdemeanor, depending on the severity of the situation.
