Small Earthquake Rumbles Through Santa Cruz County

A 5.3 shake was recorded late on Saturday night and hit areas around Santa Cruz County along with other nearby cities.

Some folks may have gotten a rude awakening just before midnight on Saturday night after a good size earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 hit 18 miles ENE of King City and shook the ground from Watsonville all the up to Felton.

According to the United States Geolgical Survey webstie, people from Aptos, Capitola, Santa Cruz, and as far out as Aromas, Gilroy, Salinas, and Fresno also reported to have felt the quake in the wee hours of the night.

A smaller 3.1 aftershock hit the same area but nothing was reported to have hit in Santa Cruz County. The last time the San Andreas fault acted up was back in August when two small quakes hit the area.
