Small Fire Breaks Out Near the Salsipuedes Creek

A small grassland fire next to Atri Court in Watsonville was quickly controlled by firefighters

A small fire broke out on Atri Court in Watsonville on Sunday afternoon just a little after 3 p.m. with no injuries reported and according to fire captain Tom Avila, there is speculation the incident was started unintentionally by a person.

The fire burned about an acre of grassland on the Watsonville side of the Salsipuedes Creek and spread a little bit to the east towards a nearby neighborhood. However, firefighters managed to put out the fire in 20 minutes and stopped it from reaching any homes, also according to Avila.

The Watsonville Fire department was the first to arrive on the scene then shortly after the CAL Fire Corralitos and Pajaro Valley districts along with the North Monterey County district arrived to help put out the fire.
