Have You Seen Him? Suspected Driver in Deadly Target Shooting ID'd

Police are searching for Miguel Angel Rodriguez, 22.

The man suspected of driving the car involved in has been identified, but police have yet to arrest him, Watsonville police reported Monday morning.

Detectives believe Miguel Angel Rodriguez, a 22-year-old Watsonville man, was the person behind the wheel when a gunman fireds shots from inside a green Honda Accord, killing Prundale field worker Gustavo Zaragoza Diaz and injuring Diaz's 25-year-old girlfriend.

A judge signed an arrest warrant for Rodriguez that charges him with gang-motivated murder, police reported. If arrested and brought to trial, he faces life in prison.

The gunman has not been identified.

Police said Rodriguez has been arrested in the past and has ties to a local gang.

Diaz was connected to a Sureno street gang, police have said. Surenos traditionally are rivals of Nortenos, the more predominate gang in Watsonville. Police have reported Diaz's age as both 18 and 20, and previously listed his name as "Gustavo Diaz Saragoza."

Investigators ask that anyone with information about Rodriguez's whereabouts call Det. Albert Lopez at 768-3361, the Investigations Bureau at 768-3350 or the Crime Tip Line at 768-3544.
