The county's Gang Task Force arrested a 38-year-old man Friday suspected of selling methamphetamine and other crimes, authorities reported.
Agents served a search warrant at Rene Lara's home, 130 Riverside Dr., around 7 p.m. They got the warrant after investigating Lara for illegal weapons possession—he's a convicted felon and, therefore, banned from having guns—and selling drugs, according to depty Jeff Simpson with the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force.
Agents detained Lara at his home while they served the warrant. During the search of the residence, officers located and seized a .44-caliber revolver that was not loaded, additional .44-caliber ammunition, 9mm ammunition, 25-caliber ammunition and about 6 grams (TGW) of methamphetamine, according to Simpson.
Officers checked law enforcement databases and found that Lara was not the registered owner of the firearm. The last legal owner of the firearm had not been determined and is still under investigation, Simpson reported.
Lara was arrested on suspicion of being a felon with a firearm and ammunition and possessing methamphetamine for sale.
