Teenage Boy Arrested on Suspision of Burglary in Pajaro

Teen suspected to have stolen about $1,500 worth of items from cars

Monterey County sheriff's deputies arrested a teenage boy in unincorporated Pajaro early Thursday morning on suspicion of stealing about $1,500 worth of items from cars.

The 17-year-old boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, was arrested around 4:10 a.m. at an apartment complex on Salinas Road in Pajaro, according to the sheriff's office.

A deputy was patrolling the rear parking lot of the apartment building when he noticed a gold Chevy pickup truck with its passenger door open and the interior lights on.

When he went to get a closer look at the vehicle, the deputy saw two males hiding next to the open passenger door. They started running away when they saw the deputy, sheriff's officials said.

The deputy chased them into a neighboring apartment complex and other deputies responded and established a perimeter around that building. Eventually a 17-year-old boy walked out of the building and was taken into custody, but the other suspect, who has not been identified, escaped on foot.

Deputies searched both complexes and found several vehicles that had been broken into or had property stolen from inside the vehicles. They were not locked, sheriff's officials said.

The stolen items, which included car stereos, money, car parts and clothing, were found in bushes or next to the vehicles from which they were taken.

The 17-year-old boy was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of burglary, petty theft, possession of stolen property, resisting a peace officer, conspiracy to commit a crime and probation violation, according to the sheriff's office.
