Teens Caught Attempting School Break-in

Police stopped the burglary right as it started on Sunday.

Watsonville police thwarted a burglary attempt Sunday evening when they arrested two juveniles trying to break into Mintie White Elementary School.

At 5:37 p.m., the officers were sent to the school on reports of suspicious subjects fressed in black near the portable classrooms.

The report put police on high alert because of the high number of school break-ins lately, according to a Watsonville Police Department press release.

"The first officer on the school grounds quickly came across two suspect prying open a window to one of the probable classrooms," Sgt. Brian Ridgway said in the release. "The suspects fled from that officer toward California Street, where they ran into another waiting officer. They attempted to flee toward Brewington Avenue but were cut off again. Both suspects were quickly apprehended without incident."

The arrestees are both teenage boys, one 15 and the other 16, police said. They were arrested for burglary, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools and violation of probation.
