Three Arrested by Gang Task Force

Two had illegal firearms, a third tried to interfere with police making an arrest.

When members of the county's gang task force spotted Manuel Cabzuela in the passenger seat of a car crossing the Pajaro Bridge Friday afternoon at 2:45, they pulled the car over. But with a misdmeanor warrant on him, Cabzuela took off running.

He had a misdemeanor warrant and a restaining order against him prohibiting him from owning a handgun, but they had heard he had a gun.

Police caught the 31-year-old and found a .45 caliber gun on him that had been stolen in a burglary on Lakeview Road last November. They also found a police scanner in his car and when they searched his house, found more stolen goods. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail for the gun, the stolen property, possession of a loaded gun in public, resisting arrest and gang crime.

Later Friday night at 10,  the task force did a probation compliance check on Nahum Chavez, 24, on his home on Marchant Street. They found him trying to hide under the bed. As deputies tried to get him out, they said, Hilda Valencia, 20, tried to stop them, while she was holding her 1-year-old baby.

The search found stolen goods and 30 grams of methamphetamine. Both were arrested and booked.
