UPDATE: Two Stabbings Sunday Night

Police have released few details about the violence.

Updated 10 p.m. Tuesday: A transient man was stabbed multiple times at a Monterey County levee Sunday night, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

An unknown man stabbed the homeless man at least twice in his upper body with a knife at the Pajaro River levee around 8:52 p.m., sheriff's officials said.

The victim was able to walk a long distance to get help. He was taken to a Bay Area hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Original report: Two people were stabbed in separate incidents near Watsonville Sunday night, authorities reported.

The first was reported at 8:46 p.m. near the Pajaro River bridge. A 37-year-old man was stabbed in the upper abdomen. Police and medics found him at 17 Walker St., between West Front and First streets, according to emergency radio traffic.

Deputy Watsonville Police Chief Rudy Escalante said stabbing actually happened in Pajaro, across the river from Watsonville and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case.

"Apparently he walked over to our side," Esclanate said.

Twenty minutes later, a second stabbing was reported in the East Lake Shopping Center on the 1000 block of East Lake Avenue. Escalante said the man was attacked at the back entrance to bar. The victim, also a 37-year-old man was knifed in the lower back, according to emergency radio traffic.

Police have few leads.

"He won't tell us a thing," Esclanate said.

Esclanate said the man attacked at the East Lake Avenue bar didn't suffer life-threatening injuries. Both stabbing victims were flown to out-of-county trauma centers for treatment.
