Watsonville Police Suspect Gangs in Shooting

One man was shot, but is expected to recover, during a violent Tuesday night

Police are investigating a gang-related shooting that occurred in Watsonville Tuesday night.

Watsonville police officers were dispatched near the intersection of Brewington Avenue and Arbol Drive at 8:16 p.m. on a report that one person was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found a 23-year-old man suffering from a solitary gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. His injury is not considered to be life threatening, according to police.

According to a police investigation, the victim was on the sidewalk when a vehicle drove past him and then came to a stop.

A suspect got out of the vehicle and approached the victim, police said.

The suspect fired a gun at the victim, striking him once.

The suspect ran back to the vehicle and drove westbound on Crestview Drive, police said.

Police said the crime is believed to be gang motivated.
