Update: Watsonville's Citibank Robbed Saturday

Police say the robbery is tied to an attempted bank heist in Capitola earlier in the day.

Watsonville's Citibank, located on the 700 block of East Lake Avenue, was robbed on Saturday morning, when a man entered the bank and passed a note containing a threat to a bank clerk, according to the Watsonville Police Department.

The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

"Our investigations unit is following up on the investigations and they have several leads," said Sgt. Michael McKinley of the Watsonville Police Department.

Police are investigating whether or not the robbery is linked to an attempted robbery that occurred at 10:35 a.m. at the Bank of the West in Capitola.

"There is speculation that it is linked to it because it was unsuccessful," said Sarah Ryan, Detective with the city of Capitola. "But what we didn't want to do is have a bunch of names and pictures out there before we can get a jump on what we need to do."

Detective Ryan said she is working with Watsonville Police Department and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Sgt. Mark Gonazales of the Capitola Police Department told Patch that they have several leads which they are working on and cannot name any names yet.

Monday, Watsonville police Sgt. Saul Gonzalez said investigators believe the two crimes are connected but declined to elaborate. Police are not releasing surveillance camera footage of the suspects at this time.
