Weekend Shootings Not Connected, Police Say

Three separate shootings created quite the scare this weekend.

A woman and her daughter were peppered with pellet gun fire while they waited in a parked vehicle on Sunday evening, Watsonville police reported.

But the two weren't hurt in what was the third shooting in Watsonville in as many days.

The most recent shooting was Sunday around 9:45 p.m. A woman was waiting for her husband with her 12-year-old daughter. They were parked in a car on the 100 block of Crestview Drive when a red sports utility vehicle pulled up, Gonzalez said. At first, it appeard the SUV was going to pull over but it opened fire on the woman's car.

“They didn’t hear any shots fired. They didn’t see anyone shooting, but they heard the penetration of the tiny little pellets," Gonzalez said.

The pellets shattered the headlights and came through the windows, but neither the woman or her daughter was hit or hurt, Gonzalez said.

“They have no idea why they’re victims," Gonzalez said.

Earlier in the weekend, . One happened on Jeanette Way, where three young people were hanging out in a front yard around 11:30 p.m. Saturday (Patch originally reported the wrong time for the incident) when a gunman yelled a gang slur and opened fire. None of the four shots hit the youth, Gonzalez said.

The third shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Friday. A house on Carey Avenue was targeted; five people were home but no one was hurt.

Gonzalez said the Jeanette Way and Carey Avenue shootings were gang-related. No arrests were made.
