Woman Found Dead in Aromas ID'd, Husband Arrested

The slaying was linked back to the Monterey home of a Naval Postgraduate School professor.

The woman found dead in Aromas was from Monterey and, as part of the investigation into her slaying, the FBI has raided the house she shared with her husband, a professor at the Naval Postraduate School, KSBW Action News 8 reported.

Her estranged husband, 69-year-old Lawrence Jones, has been arrested in connection with her death, according to the Salinas Californian.

The TV news station also reported the woman was Norife Herrera Jones, 29, and that they believe her former husband murdered her inside their Spray Avenue house, then left her body in a remote area near Highway 101.

Authorities have not said how she died.

Her body was found Sept. 7 about 100 feet off Cannon Road. Sheriffs' deputies told the Santa Cruz Sentinel that the remains had been there for two to three days when a hiker discovered them, according to this Mercury News story.

Lawrence Jones teaches in the Graduate School of Business and Public Policy at the Naval institute. He was arrested late last week in Los Angeles County, according to KION Central Coast News.

The FBI raid on the Jones' house Friday stunned neighbors in the upscale community, KION reported.

We got one too sweetcakes (some caring person actually tucked it into my door handle so it wouldn'tRead More blow away) even though I have a "No on T" sign in my yard. The "Yes on T" is all lies anyway so it went right into my recycle bin. Perhaps it was just coincidence but they came while we were at the City Council meeting last night. Go figure.
