Woman Killed in Crash ID'd

The 23-year-old had recently moved from the Central Valley to Watsonville.

The woman who died when was Courtney Manning, the Coroner's Office reported Monday.

Manning, 23, was heading east from Watsonville toward Highway 101 when her red Dodge Neon drifted into oncoming traffic, clipped another car, spun around and was hit by a dump truck loaded with gravel, according to authorities.

Manning died at the scene.

"It's unclear whether she crossed over to pass or was inattentive and drifted," CHP officer Sarah Jackson said.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 30-year-old Soquel woman, was taken to Watsonville Community Hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the dump truck, a 47-year-old Manteca man, was not injured, according to Jackson.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash. All three drivers were wearing their seat belts, the CHP reported.

Manning was from Ceres, a Central Valley town south of Modesto, according to the coroner, but the CHP also reported that she had a local address in Watsonville. According to her Facebook page, Manning was living in Watsonville and working at Chili's in Seaside.
