5 Things to Know About Watsonville: Thanksgiving Week

City offices are closed all week for Thanksgiving and because of ongoing budget reductions.

Essential services will not be affected. That's police, fire, garbage pick up, the airport, building inspection and water turn-on.

But are closed and you can't walk in to pay a water bill this week. The closure helps reduce the city's budget deficit; offices reopen Monday, Nov. 28, with regular hours.

The city shutdown means no Watsonville City Council meeting this week. The council will meet next Tuesday, Nov. 29, and on Dec. 13. Then the elected officials are done for the year.

There's zilch on the Nov. 29 agenda.

It's Click It or Ticket time again, so make sure to buckle up or risk a ticket and hefty fine from the California Highway Patrol. Also, starting Wednesday, CHP officers will be out in force for the holiday weekend. Plan plenty of time to get to your holiday dinners and don't drive home drunk after.

If doesn't interest you, wait a week and do get your gift shopping done at the city's Holiday Factory Sale on Dec. 3. Thirteen vendors will be offering great deals all day and it's an easy way to support local businesses.
