Alejo Lauds Governor's Immigration Stance

Governor Jerry Brown wrote a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein early this week expressing California's support for comprehensive immigration reform. Last week, Assemblymember Luis Alejo, whose district includes Watsonville, had a resolution pass with the same message.

On Tuesday, Alejo issued the following statement in support of Gov. Brown's letter to Feinstein.

“I applaud Governor Brown’s call to action asking for Senator Feinstein’s leadership to pass comprehensive immigration reform. I strongly agree and have seen firsthand that our current immigration system is inadequate and affects every sector of our economy.

“In addition to the governor’s proposal to increase education and skills of our workers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, I believe including adult education funding in order for adult immigrants to attend school to learn English would be most helpful in integrating these workers into our communities.

“As the author of Assembly Joint Resolution 3, which calls upon Congress and the President of the United States to take a humane and just approach to solving the nation’s broken immigration system, this call to action could not be more timely.  AJR 3 received bipartisan support off the Assembly Floor last week and has 64 authors from both sides of the aisle.

“The time for comprehensive immigration reform is now.  Modernizing our antiquated and dysfunctional immigration system will uphold our nation's basic values of fairness, equality as well as opportunity.”
