Appointed City Councilor Will Seek Reelection

Lowell Hurst declared his candidacy Tuesday.

Lowell Hurst, 63, declared his intent to run for District 3 just before Tuesday's city council meeting.

"I am expressing my interest early on, as a courtesy to the voters," Hurst said in a prepared statement. "No one needs to guess about my intent or willingness to serve the community."

The election is slated for November 2012.

Hurst, a retired vocational agriculture insturctor in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, served on the Watsonville City Council from 1989 until he termed out in 1998. He was reappointed to the council following .

"Hopefully the city can be well served by my experience and knowledge," he said in his statement. "I am answering the call."
