Cabrillo College Hosts Election Town Hall

The Monday afternoon event will focus on Props 30, 32, 34 and 36; Santa Cruz Mayor Don Lane is the keynote speaker.

Cabrillo College’s Commitment to Democracy, in partnership with the American Democracy Project and sponsored by the Associated Students of Cabrillo College (ASCC) is pleased to present the First Annual Cabrillo College Town Hall – Election 2012 and the CA Ballot, Debating the Propositions. The event will be held on Monday, October 22 from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Erica Schilling Forum (Building 450) at the Cabrillo College Aptos Campus, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003. Because Monday, October 22 is the last day to register to vote, voter registration will be available at the event beginning at 2 p.m.

The featured guest speaker is Santa Cruz Mayor Don Lane. In addition, invited elected officials, Cabrillo College faculty members, and representatives from Common Cause, the League of Women Voters, the California State Sheriff’s Association, and other nonprofit and public organizations will speak about the following Propositions:

  • Proposition 30: Temporary taxes to fund education
  • Proposition 32: Prohibiting unions from using money for political purposes
  • Proposition 34: Repeals the death penalty
  • Proposition 36: Revises the three strikes law

The First Annual Cabrillo College Town Hall event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided. This is an educational event, and any views advocated by panel participants do not necessarily reflect the positions of Cabrillo College. Faculty participants express their views as individual citizens.
