Dana Sales Pulls Papers for County Supervisor Seat

The County School Board trustee says he may run for the District 4 seat next spring.





Santa Cruz County Board of Education Trustee Dana Sales is considering a run for County Supervisor in the Fourth District.

Sales met with a representative from the county Election Department on Thursday afternoon to get the paperwork and information needed to begin the process. 

"I want to gauge the level of support or opposition and will make a formal decision in October," Sales said in an email to Patch.

The Fourth District includes Watsonville and the southeast corner of Santa Cruz County. Supervisor Greg Caput currently represents the area.

Caput was elected in 2010 to a four-year term.

Sales is a Broker Associate at David Lyng and Associates Real Estate and has been a county Board of Education Trustee since 1992, serving as president three times. 

Before that, Sales was on the board of the Pajaro Valley Unified School District. His long list of board appointments and community service activities includes board of Bay Federal Credit Union, Action Pajaro Valley, the Pajaro Valley Prevention and Student Assistance, Inc., and many others.

Caput has not said if he will seek a second term. Retired—and now interim—Watsonville Police Chief Terry Medina announced last week that he will not be running for District 4 Supervisor because he was temporarily rehired to lead the Watsonville Police Department while Chief Manny Solano undergoes treatment for cancer.
