Earthquake? Tsunami? Time to Get Prepared

City schedules four disaster-preparedness workshops.

Did you evacuate during the tsunami scare earlier this month? Do you have an earthquake kit? When was the last time you check the batteries in your smoke detectors?

Well, the time has come for Watsonville residents to learn how to be ready should a natural disaster occur. Four disaster-preparedness workshops are slated for this spring:

  • April 23 from 10 a.m. to noon at , 1301 Main St. in Watsonville. This workshop will be in Spanish.
  • April 27 from 6-8 p.m. at , in1140 Menasco Dr. in Watsonville. This workshop will be in English with Spanish translation.
  • April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at Freedom Elementary School, 25 Holly Dr. in Freedom. This workshop will be in Spanish.
  • May 21 from 10 a.m. to noon in the community room at City Hall, 275 Main St. in Watsonville. This workshop will be in English.

The city is partnering with the local chapter of the American Red Cross to provide these free community events.
