Immigration Forum

Fourth District County Supervisor Greg Caput has announced that he will be hosting an Immigration and Secure Communities Forum to be held on Wednesday, May 16 from 6-8 p.m. at the Watsonville Veterans Memorial Building, 215 E. Beach St. in Watsonville.

The purpose of the forum is to inform local community members of the Federal Secure Communities program and the immigration detainer requests being enforced against persons whose fingerprints are listed in the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) database.

Speakers for the event include Center for Farmworker Families Director Dr. Ann Lopez, Latino Affairs Commission Chairperson Jorge Mendez, Santa Cruz County Supervisor Greg Caput, Santa Cruz County Sheriff Phil Wowak, and Women’s Crisis Support - Defensa de Mujeres Executive Director Laura Segura.

Members of the public will be encouraged to voice their opinions and concerns about local immigration enforcement and to ask questions of panel members. The event will also feature a folklorico performance by the local children’s group Juventud Latina Genesis at the beginning of the event.
