Mayor Selection, Walgreens Project Vote at Tuesday's City Council Meeting

Tuesday's city council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at City Council Chambers.

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the city will swear in new council members, select a mayor and vote on a Walgreen’s construction project.

The public meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers (275 Main Street, 4th floor).

New Council members Trina Coffman-Gomez and Karina Cervantez, as well as those who were re-elected -- Lowell Hurst and Felipe Hernandez -- will be sworn in. Also, the council will select a mayor.

The Council will also vote on a construction project for a 1,500 square foot Walgreens on a stretch of Main Street now occupied with vacant lots and worn-down buildings.

Through a land swap, the San Francisco-based developer would give the city $4,500 and build a replacement parking lot for police.

Why is the meeting starting at 5:30? I thought this issue was dealt with before. Most people with jobs can't make a 5:30 starting time. More of the same BS...some things never change.

The matter has been predecided so this meeting is just for show.

Lowell Hurst will be their perfect selection. That way nobody can call them racists, but they will still get everything their way.

Yup - we need people we can trust back on the counsel like Greg Caput.

Very corrupt of the city council that the mayor is appointed rather than elected.

IMHO the mayor and pt mayor were chosen prior to the meeting. Speeches were already prepared and it was NO surprise. What was the speeched by Danny boy about having a black and white photo on the wall.
This city council is a clique of people that do as THEY want not as the people want. The council is a stepping stone for climbing the ladder to something higher. What will Mrs. Alejo do, run for supervisor? Eddie is done. He served his purpose for the "clique" so he is just going to serve his term out. Can't wait for more investigations to be done on this bunch of clowncils. RANDY... not even surprised

The investigations conducted already don't really mean too much if there is no follow-up action taken. Vast majority of the City Council does at it wants with very little regard if any for the citizens of Watsonville. Something like "You pad my pocket and I'll see that you get appointed next time". How do you spell corruption???????

The $4500.00 will go to the Brown Beria's as a donation. And a thank you for their basic thugs and criminal, gang training program.

I'd like to have more info about this. I'm thinking of "bundling" my telephone land line,Read More internet, and HGTV with Charter, BUT if they practice censorhsip, I might reconsider. Any more info would be appreciated...what websites are being blocked?
Butch Cole June 16, 2013 at 01:32 am
I'd like more information also..I have Charter now and can't remember getting notification that theyRead More are blocking sites.
Earl Pickles June 16, 2013 at 10:40 pm
Doubtful that notification would be given. Sites that are most troublesome for Charter are thoseRead More available for downloading copyrighted material. This is not to say that Charter is a bad ISP for it is a relative fast, moderately priced, reliable service in this area. I would suggest however that you do not lease the required equipment from them but purchase your own. If you are interested in finding out more about Charter and other ISPs blocking sites, information is available on the Internet.

From emergency dispatchers: the white four-door sedan had flames coming from the engine compartment.Read More It was on the off-ramp from southbound Highway 1 near Rampart. The car was fully engulfed and the flames spread into the surrounding vegetation a bit, but firefighters only needed a couple of minutes to knock down the fire.
