Watsonville city manager Carlos Palacios said the new eatery is coming before the Planning Commission next week to ask for a liquor license.

Watsonville has a new seafood restaurant on the hook.

The Fish House, a popular Monterey eatery, is adding a location on Main Street in Watsonville. The seafood restaurant is taking over the Green Valley Grill location near the Cowboy Cafe.

Watsonville City Manager Carlos Palacios said The Fish House will be coming before the Planning Commission next week to gain approval for a liquor license. The applicant, according to city documents, is Carlos Zavala.

Palacios described The Fish House as "like Phil's, but sit-down"—referring to the landmark seafood restaurant in Moss Landing. A food blogger's review of the Monterey Fish House location raved about the fresh oysters, swordfish in a lemon butter and caper sauce, and honey almond-encrusted mahi mahi.

The restaurant's new location is hiring. As of Wednesday afternoon, all positions were open, according to a sign in the front of the building. People were encouraged to apply in person and immediately.

The Green Valley Grill fell on hard times and closed in October. The business had been in a downward spiral for years, moving from its landmark location on Penny Lane to the smaller site on Main Street during the summer of 2011. But downsizing wasn't enough to stay in business and owner Ray Rodriguez closed its doors after two decades in Watsonville.

The Fish House will be located at 972 Main St. No opening date has been announced.

The Watsonville Planning Commission meeting is 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 2.
