Q&A: Second District Candidate Daniel Beckett

Beckett is one of five District 2 Candidates running for County Supervisor.

Editor's note: This is the one in a series of pieces about the candidates for Santa Cruz County District 2 Supervisor. Check back daily for another candidate Q&A.

Patch: How does your background make you uniquely qualified to be the Santa Cruz County Supervisor? What distinguishes you from the other candidates?

I'm a lifetime resident of the 2nd district and as a result, I know the people, the issues and the problems well. A strong background in business, history and the constitution will help guide my decisions. A good portion of my life has been spent volunteering and working with others on issues that affect our county. The position on the board will not be used as a stepping stone to higher office. I am not part of the status quo political machine and I am not chained down by party politics.Simply I want to do what's good for the people of the 2nd district.

Patch: What do you see as the main issues facing Santa Cruz County, and how do you intend to address them?

There has been lack of elected representation for the people in the second district meaning that most Supervisors have  not tended to the basic role of government and County finances are in a perpetual state of disrepair. I have pledged a 25 percent salary reduction and want to put it in a road repair fund. Additionally I am committed to serving the 2nd district with integrity, accessibility and full-time dedication.
