Salud Para La Gente Receives National Appointment

CEO of Salud Para La Gente to serve as Chair of the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health.

Dr. Zettie D. Page III, Chief Executive Officer of Salud Para La Gente, has been appointed by Secretary of Health and Human Resources Kathleen Sebelius to serve as the Chair of the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health of the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The Council is legislatively mandated to advise, consult with, and make recommendations to the Secretary of Health and Human Services on the health and well-being of migrant farmworkers and their families.  It meets this mandate by holding public hearings three times each year with input solicited from migrant health programs, federal and non-governmental agencies, and the farmworkers themselves, and reporting findings directly to the Secretary.

For over 30 years, as part of its founding mission, Salud Para La Gente has been directly serving the farm worker community, creating health access for migrant and seasonal farm workers at numerous clinics, school-based health centers, and outreach sites in the tri-county region of Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito.  “I am honored to chair this Council,” said Dr. Page, “as we continue to monitor the well-being of one of the nation’s most critical drivers of the agricultural workforce:  farm workers and their families.”
