Egg Drop Contest Marks National Engineers' Week

Do you think you can create a package in which to drop an egg from the top Civic Plaza Building and have it not break? Here's your chance! It's the 11th Annual Egg Drop Contest!

City of Watsonville Engineers will be hosting the 11th Annual Egg Drop Contest on Thursday, February 21, 2013 as part of National Engineers' Week!  The Contest is open to all.  Registration begins at 4:00 p.m. in the alley between the Civic Plaza Building at 275 Main Street and the Post Office and the contest will begin at 4:30 p.m.  For more information or contest rules, contact Maria Esther Rodriguez, Principal Engineer, 768-3112, or Murray Fontes, Principal Engineer, at 768-311.

In the past, participants in the Egg Drop Contest included City staff, Watsonville High School students from the MESA (Mathematics, Engineering & Science Achievement) Club, children from the City’s Science Workshop and members of the public.  Contestants are to provide a package that can hold a raw egg and prevent it from breaking when dropped from the 6th floor of the parking garage at the Civic Plaza Building.

Engineers Week was founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers and is sponsored by more than 100 engineering, scientific and education societies, and major corporations throughout the United States.  The event is dedicated to increasing public awareness and appreciation of engineers and to encourage pre-college interest in science, technology and engineering.
