Watsonville Landscape Water Conservation - Save Money - Save Water

During our dry season, water used to irrigate landscapes, and lawns can quickly increase water bills.

The City of Watsonville has met the state mandate of reducing water use by 20% before 2020 in commercial properties and is now working towards the long-term water conservation goal to maintain water use at current levels, even as our population increases.

Over the past three years, the largest City parks have reduced irrigation water by 83%. The amount of water saved by City parks staff is the equivalent of a 685-foot tower of water covering the soccer field at Ramsay Park! These water savings were achieved through repairs, upgrades of broken irrigation equipment to more efficient systems, reprograming of irrigation controls, and landscape plant choices. Watsonville businesses are also doing their part to prevent water waste and conserve. Plant Sciences, Monterey Mushrooms, and Superior Foods are businesses that have voluntarily reduced irrigation by 50% and are maintaining their water-wise landscapes within a water budget. 

All water customers have the potential to conserve water and help meet our collective goal. If you notice that irrigation water from your property is watering the sidewalk or wasted into the gutter, call the City of Watsonville’s Landscape Water Conservation program to schedule a free appointment. A water conservation specialist will meet with you and/or your landscape company to evaluate your irrigation system, program your irrigation controller, and provide ecological landscaping recommendations and referrals.
