MENTAL ILLNESS: Didn’t cause it; can’t cure it!

Pat Lindstrom has been counseling in the Bay Area for over twenty years.  She’s been a member of Senior Circle for the past two years.  She says, “In our culture mental illness holds a great deal of shame and fear for us.  One in four Americans experience a mental health disorder in a given year.  Usually families are blamed for the problem.  But we need to understand that we didn’t cause it, and we can’t fix it.  We’ll explore what is helpful and what is hurtful for their loved ones.  As we address this issue, they’ll gain hope and empowerment.
