Poets’ Circle monthly poetry reading series

The Poets’ Circle monthly poetry reading series will be held at the Watsonville Public Library, beginning on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m. and thereafter on the second Thursday of the month through April 2013. Each month the series will feature one distinguished poet and an open mic for emerging poets. Readings will be free to the public. This program is funded in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County, and produced by Magdalena Montagne. The scheduled reader for August is T. Mike Walker.

T. Mike Walker grew up in San Francisco and received his MA in Language Arts from San Francisco State University, where he taught Creative Writing from 1962-1965. His first novel, A Way From The World: A Policeman’s Journal, was published in 1970 by Grove Press. It reflected his experience as a San Francisco policeman from 1960-1963. He taught Creative Writing at Cabrillo College from 1968-1998 and served as Santa Cruz Art League Board President from 2006-2010. He currently serves as executive director of the Santa Cruz Art League.
