New Green Tech Building Dedicated

Cabrillo College's Watsonville campus is home to the Solari Green Technology Center.

The new Solari Green Technology Center at is officially open.

The facility, at 318 Union St., houses Cabrillo's Construction and Energy Management program, which focuses on sustainable construction and building performance practices. Classes began in the Center fall semester 2012. The buildings have been designed to be adaptable to a variety of industrial technology oriented programs, enabling the college to offer training that is responsive to the needs of local and regional employers.

A grand opening event was planned for Friday morning, featuring presentations from Cabrillo College President and Superintendent Dr. Brian King and Cabrillo College Trustee Margarita Cortez, as well as from Tony Campos, Workforce Investment Board Chairperson Ron Slack, Rose Ann Woolpert of Graniterock, and Past President and CEO of Granite Construction, Bill Dorey.

was funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and has achieved the LEED Platinum Certification standard, the highest environmental standard for construction. Bond funds and contributions, including gifts from the Les and Jeane Ley Family Fund and the Solari Green Technology Center Endowment, established by Mary and the late Dick Solari, also supported the new building and its educational programs.
