Rolling Hills Teacher, Energy Tech Honored

The school district named Educator and Classified Employees of the Month for October.

On Wednesday, October 12, the Board of Education and administration of Pajaro Valley Unified School District recognized two employees who had been nominated and selected to receive an award. Both employees received a $50 gift card and a certificate from Jacob Young.

Educator of the Month

Mike Donegan, a teacher at Rolling Hills Middle School, was nominated by his peers for his devotion to students. Mr. Rick Ito, principal, remarked that “Mr. Donegan is a teacher who does everything: yearbook editing, works with English Language Learners, works in the after school programs and offers technology support.”  He added that Mr. Donegan develops great relationships with students and staff and that he was honored to be part of giving him the award.

Classified Employee of the Month

Herlindo Fernandez, Energy Management Technician in the Maintenance and Operations department, was nominated by his peers and selected by the committee for his dedication to his work. Mr. Steve Okamura, Energy Education Manager, spoke of Mr. Fernandez’ willingness to learn and help the team out whenever it was necessary. Mr. Okamura stated that Mr. Fernandez learned the responsibilities of his position quickly and is a committed employee.  Also in attendance to witness his award were his family and Rick Mullikin, Director of the M&O department.

The Board congratulated both employees and thanked them for their teamwork mentality and for going the extra mile for students.

Jacob Young Financial is a Financial Planning Firm located in Watsonville, specializing in retirement planning. The company sponsors and manages the Educator of the Month Award and the Classified Employee of the Month programs. The selection committee is comprised of retired classified and certificated employees. All district employees are encouraged to participate by nominating a peer who has gone above and beyond to support students. Recipients are honored in front of their peers at their site and at a board meeting.
