School Starts For New Cabrillo College President

Cabrillo College welcomes Dr. Laurel Jones as president and superintendent of Cabrillo College. At its June 10 meeting, the Cabrillo College Governing Board unanimously approved a three-year contract for Dr. Jones.
 
“The Governing Board is thrilled with our selection of Dr. Laurel Jones as Cabrillo’s next president and superintendent,” said Rachael Spencer, chair of the Cabrillo College Governing Board. “Dr. Jones has strong community college leadership experience, a collaborative leadership style and a real commitment to student success, all of which will serve Cabrillo very well.” 
 
“I am so honored to be selected for this auspicious position, and now I can say how touched I am to be working with staff, faculty and administrators who have already been so welcoming,” said Dr. Jones. “I look forward to getting to know the great institution that is Cabrillo College and the wonderful Santa Cruz County community that Cabrillo serves.”
 
Dr. Jones will give her first college-wide presentation just before the start of fall semester, at Cabrillo’s annual All College Day event, to be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. at the Crocker Theater, Aptos Campus. Media and members of the community are welcome to attend. 
 
Biographical Information on Dr. Laurel Jones
Dr. Laurel Jones has had a distinguished, 25-year career serving California’s Community Colleges. She was most recently the president of Mission College in Santa Clara, a community college in the West Valley-Mission Community College District with an enrollment of approximately 10,000 students per year. Prior to that, she served as the vice president of academic services at Las Positas College in Livermore and as the vice president of academic affairs at Solano Community College. Before that, Dr. Jones was the dean of instruction at Mount San Jacinto College in Riverside County. She began her academic career as an instructor at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, California.
 
Dr. Jones has served on the Board of Directors of several community organizations, including the Santa Clara Business and Commerce Chamber, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Silicon Valley Allies, the West Valley/Mission Community College District Foundation, and the Mission College Center for Innovation and Technology.

Jones started work Monday.
