Traffic Cops Will Patrol Near Watsonville High

Concerns about student safety prompted Friday's special enforcement.

Motorists, be on your best behavior near Watsonville High on Friday.

All day—7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.—Watsonville police will be doing increased patrols around the school, at 250 E. Beach St., because of complaints from school staff, residents and parents, according to the police department.

There will be more police presence and enforcement of traffic laws, especially those that apply to school zones, speeding, sign and signal violations, and distracted driving.

It's the second time in two months WPD officers are focusing on the area. People are worried about student safety as they walk to and from school because of stop sign violations, speeding and general aggressive driving around the high school.
