Watsonville High Girls Attend NASA Ames HerWorld Conference

Women have made strides in many careers, but their numbers still fall behind men in the sciences.

To help reverse this trend, there was an emphasis to expose girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM at an early age and DeVry University’s HerWorld program hosted nearly 400 girls at NASA Ames last week.

Watsonville High School sent students to participate in the conference near Mountain View. Other schools represented at the conference included Pinole Valley High School, JFK High School, Newark Memorial High School, Burlingame High School, Hayward High School, Tennyson High School, McClymonds High School, Oakland High School, Santa Clara High School, Irvington High School, Wilcox High School, San Mateo High School, Westmoore High School and Galileo High School.

The national call to action is an initiative hosted by DeVry University educators to introduce young girls to women who have excelled in their fields and help them gain inspiration toward their future endeavors.
