Local Runners Finish Prestigious Boston Marathon

The 'world's oldest marathon' ran Monday morning.

Nearly 24,000 marathoners finished the storied Boston Marathon on Monday, including a handful of South County residents.

  • Watsonville resident , 45, finished in three hours, 17 minutes and 48 seconds, or 3:17:48.
  • Rich Wilson, 50, from Corralitos ran 3:34:28.

The world's oldest marathon, the Boston Marathon is a prestigious event that runners spend months or even years training for, just to meet the qualifying standards for the grueling 26.2-mile journey.

Monday was the 115th running of the race. Seven Aptos residents also ran, including two who finished side-by-side.

  • Jeff Moreno, 34, was the top local finisher, at 2:59:29.
  • The leading South County woman was Emily Trexel, 33, who clocked 3:38:13.
  • Greg Hales, 45, ran 3:42:23.
  • Edward Hoffman, 38, and Mark Berlin, 55, finished in 3:49:37 and 3:49:38, respectively.
  • Steven McGowan, 50, ran 3:52:09.
  • Klara Dickinson, 44, came across the finish line in 3:55:24.
  • May Christey, 45, ran 4:31:52.
