Youth Soccer Team Gets National Exposure This Weekend

The ESPN documentary about a Watsonville gang intervention program airs Saturday on ESPN2.

HERoics, the documentary profiling Watsonville probation officer Gina Castañeda and the Aztecas youth soccer program, will debut Saturday at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

The series, a one-hour program, also will air on ABC at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 2—in the middle of the Women’s World Cup.

HERoics is a series of six short documentaries chronicling women’s courage, perseverance, breaking through barriers, failure and eventual redemption.

Aztecas is a gang intervention program Castañeda started three years ago.

Casteñeda is the only American among the six stories. The other documentaries profile women from England, Spain, the Republic of Congo, Australia and Brazil. Her film is called The Save and was directed by Amanda Micheli.
