Photos: Watsonville Strawberry Festival

Cloudy weather doesn't stop people from attending the 18th annual Strawberry Festival in downtown Watsonville.

Despite the not so sunny weather conditions on Saturday, thousands of people still managed to make it to the 18th annual and everything from the BBQ skewers to the strawberry nachos was on point.

A new item added to this year's Strawberry Lane was a traditional Greek dish called Loukoumades, they are sweet fritters (similar to doughnuts) that are deep fried till golden brown and served warm with a honey syrup, sprinkled with cinnamon and nuts.

Sophie Moore from the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Santa Cruz was behind the creation and said it will be featured in this year's Greek Festival on September 14-16.

The bands were spectacular but nobody stole the show like The Sledge Grits Band. The talented all-girl group of musicians was an awesome sight to see and these youngsters aren't even old enough to buy cigarettes. In fact, two of them still need a grown-up to watch a PG-13 movie.

Also at the festival was the man that created this year’s promotional poster, Art Siordia from Mojave, Calif.  He was more than happy to pose for pictures with the original vibrant painting and even brought along his dog model from the poster, Scotty.
