Cabrillo Lions Earn Kudos

The Aptos-based club was honored for 50 years of service.

The State of California honored Cabrillo Host Lions Club for 50 years of community service.

County Board of Education President Vic Marani and Board member Gina Locatelli presented the framed proclamation to the club members at their regular meeting night earlier this fall.

President Jess Allen received the proclamation on behalf of the members. Sen. Sam Blakesly signed the document, which honors the club for its many achievements, including the conception and construction of the community building and the park on unused land owned by the county. Club members volunteered for a year to compete the building for the community.

Over the years the club has donated to many non-profits and equipment schools in the area, to fire relief, scouting, seniors and has given scholarships to local high school students. Lions Clubs provide eye exams and surgeries to the local area residents. Cabrillo Lions has an emergency preparedness pamphlet that can be downloaded at the Cabrillo eclubhouse site.

“We were so honored to receive this recognition for 50 years of volunteer work,” President Jess Allen said. “The Lions motto is ‘We Serve’ and we are happy to give back to the community.”
