Relay For Life Gets Warmed Up

The kick-off party for the cancer-fighting event drew a good crowd Thursday.

The , a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, started off in style Thursday evening at the Pajaro Valley Trust building.

 drew dignitaries including Mayor Eduardo Montesino and Murry Schekman, assistant superintendent of secondary education for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.

The Relay for Life will run from 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21 until 10 a.m Sunday, July 22 at Watsonville High School. Teams camp out, eat together and have fun while at least one member of each team walks on the track throughout the all-night event. The opening lap of the relay is reserved for cancer survivors. After the first lap, other team members join in taking their turns around the track.

Participants are treated to music and entertainment throughout the event. Prizes are given away and numerous fun contests are conducted. Cancer has touched just about everyone in some way—whether it's personally, a close family member or friend. We will do everything we can to help in the fight against this disease.
