St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School was founded in 2001 with 35 underclassmen at a temporary location at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. The East Lake Avenue campus opened in 2002 and has continued to grow, both by the student population size and by campus features. Today, the school has more than 220 students and 21 faculty members who utilized state-of-the-art educational and athletic facilities. The contemporary Catholic school can trace its roots back to 1869, when the school was an orphanage. St. Francis has also been a boarding school, seminary for Salesian priests and brothers, a junior high school and a youth center.
