The Watsonville Police Department has about 70 sworn officers and another 40 civillian support positions. The department provides emergency response services and security in the city. The department has several divisions, including traffic officers and an investigations section which handles gang violence and other major incidents. Officers also do community outreach through a multitude of programs, many of which are grant-funded endeavors aimed at crime prevention and intervention among at-risk youth. The police also provide support for Neighborhood Watch, run the Police Activities League and have a Police Cadet program for young adults.
