Cheri O'Neil, Neighbor
- Capitola-Soquel, CA
I knew as a kid growing up in Kalispell, Montana, that I wanted to be a journalist, and by the time All The President’s Men came out in the movie theaters, I’d declared my major at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism. My first job out of college was at the Spokesman-Review in Washington state, where I found that covering ice hockey was not my forte.
I moved to California and spent 16 years as a reporter and features writer at The Modesto Bee. Then I worked as editor at the Tracy Press during a dozen years of boom and bust in the news industry. I was publisher of the Scotts Valley Press-Banner before I struck out on my own as a freelance writer and editor.
I have two wonderful children and love to visit them in San Francisco and Portland. I also spend part of every summer on Flathead Lake in Montana. The rest of the time, you'll find me walking my dog at the beach or riding my bike in Capitola, where I think I’ve found a little bit of paradise.
