Watsonville Restaurant Name Finally Announced

The Register-Pajaronian reported Monday that Gabriel Chavarria of Watsonville came up with the name.

"Chavarria said his choice is a nod to the region’s rich agricultural heritage, which reaches around the world," the community newspaper reported.

On Feb. 1, Watsonville Patch readers suggested a multitude of names for the restaurant, including reader Watzon McWats, who threw out The Appleton Inn, Appleton Bistro and Cafe Appleton. Just two minutes later, reader Steve Bankhead suggested Cafe Appleton as well.

The menu at the Appleton will include pizza, wings, burgers, classic breakfast options and a variety of dinner entrees. 

According to the Register-Pajaronian, the building housing the new restaurant "was designed 101 years ago by renowned architect William Weeks after more than 40,000 people attended the city’s Apple Annual festival, a fete meant to celebrate the success of the crop."
