*INFORMATION:* The Watsonville Police Department has recently come in contact with residents who are having garage/yard sales. 

Some of these garage/yard sales do not have a city permit. 

Not having a permit is a violation of Watsonville Muni Code 5-26.01- No sales without permits.

The municipal code reads as follows:


No person shall sell or offer for sale any new, used, or secondhand goods or merchandise from a dwelling or residentially zoned district where the general public is invited to purchase, trade, or bargain for such goods or merchandise, commonly known as garage or yard sales, without first obtaining a permit for and conforming to the provisions of this Chapter.

It is also a violation of the municipal code to place/affix advertisement signs on poles or other areas of the city. This is governed by Watsonville Municipal Code 5-26.06 Sign displays:


A sign, no longer than three (3) square feet in area, may be displayed on the premises announcing the sale during the permitted period. No sign shall be displayed at any location outside or off the premises.



As a reminder, garage/ yard sale permits can be obtained at the front office of the police department for $19.00. 

The limitations of issuance for the permits are one (1) per house hold every six (6) months. Once the permit is issued, it is valid for two consecutive days. The Watsonville Police Department would like to thank the residents of the city for their understanding and cooperation.
