Updated: Hospital Security Guard Charged with Molesting Underage Patient

The 23-year-old Watsonville man allegedly assaulted the girl twice.

A Watsonville Community Hospital security guard is accused of sexually abusing a juvenile patient at the medical center, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Child molestation charges were filed against Alberto Martinez Maldonado, 23, this week, according to District Attorney Bob Lee.

Maldonado was a hospital security guard who watched high-risk patients, according to the D.A.'s Office.

Lee was tight-lipped about the details of the case, but did say Maldonado allegedly assaulted the girl twice: once in early May and again on May 25. It was after the second assault that Watsonville Police were notified of the abuse.

Lee declined to release the girl's age or explain the security guard's presence during her stay at the hospital. He said more details would come out in court Thursday, when Maldonado is arraigned.

"They're very serious sexual assault charges," Lee said.

At this point, Lee said there are no other alleged victims.

"Of course we're always concerned about other victims," he said. "That's something we'll be looking into."

Maldonado faces prison time if convicted.
